The indoor pool area at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa features Iroko wood decking that had lost its depth of colour and needed a full restoration. With constant moisture, algae, and bare feet to consider, this was never going to be only a cosmetic refresh.
The aim was to restore the timber properly, improve the finish and leave the pool surround looking smart, safe, and ready for daily use.

What was needed?
The Iroko wood decking had weathered to a flat, tired finish after years of poolside use. Some boards were too damaged to restore, and the steps also needed repair work before the surface could be sanded and finished properly.
Repairing
We placed the damaged board and completed the step repairs alongside M&M Carpentry & Interiors, who brought us onto the project and supported us throughout. Getting the structure right before sanding meant the whole deck could be treated and finished as one consistent surface.
Sanding
We approached the decking much like a timber floor restoration, working through the grits with our Lagler and Bona sanding machines. This removed the tired surface layer and left the Iroko smooth, even and ready for oiling.
Choosing the finish
After testing and with careful consideration, we chose Treatex Iroko Oil to restore the colour and depth of the timber. It is made specifically for Iroko and other tropical hardwoods, which made it a strong fit for this setting. The change in the wood was immediate and striking.
We then applied two coats of Treatex Anti Slip Decking Oil. This protects the timber against moisture and algae, and it gives the pool surround the slip resistance a spa environment needs.
The result
The finished decking looked warm, even and refreshed, with the natural colour of the Iroko brought back through. The team at Lucknam Park were as pleased with the result as we were.
