We recently completed a full oak flooring installation in Somerset, transforming a ground floor space with a bespoke smoked oak finish.
The client had a clear vision from the start – smoked oak with a white oil finish – creating a modern, natural look with depth and character.
The Brief
- Install high-quality engineered oak flooring
- Achieve a bespoke smoked and white oiled finish
- Ensure a perfectly level and stable subfloor
- Seamlessly integrate flooring across steps and levels
- Deliver a clean, modern finish throughout

Our Approach
Subfloor Preparation
A large part of this project was ensuring the correct foundation.
We carried out:
- Full subfloor preparation
- Removal of existing tiles and floor coverings
- Installation of 9mm plywood, securely screwed down
Proper prep is critical – this is what ensures the floor performs and lasts.

Floor Installation
We installed 20/6mm engineered oak flooring, chosen for both durability and stability.
- Fully bonded using MS polymer flexible wood flooring adhesive
- Installed with precision for a seamless flow across the space
- Carefully planned board layout for a natural, balanced appearance

Stair Detailing
To maintain consistency across levels:
- Installed solid oak stair nosing
- Colour-matched to the smoked oak flooring
- Created a clean, continuous transition between areas

Finishing touches
- New MDF skirting boards fitted throughout
- Colour matched solid oak door profiles
- Final finish enhances the natural grain while keeping a soft, modern tone

The Result
The finished floor delivers a warm, contemporary look with plenty of natural variation and texture.
The smoked oak paired with white oil creates a subtle contrast that works beautifully with both modern interiors and traditional features like the fireplace.
Another happy customer and a space completely transformed.
