What makes parquet floors different?
Traditional parquet is made up of individual wood blocks; often oak, pine, sapele, walnut, merbau, or teak. The blocks are arranged in a pattern (herringbone is the most common) and are usually fixed to the subfloor with adhesive. Over time, that adhesive can break down especially where there has been damp, movement in the subfloor, or simply years of wear. The result is loose, lifting, or rocking blocks, sometimes in isolated patches or across an entire room.
